In my experience, InterServer’s website and checkout process can be a little confusing.
So let’s break down the main steps into more detail so that you can be 100% sure that you’re getting the best price possible.
Step #1 – Copy Down the Coupon Code and Click Any Link on This Page
Again, the coupon code is “WHOISHOST“.
While you can manually find your way to InterServer’s website, the far easier way is to click one of the large buttons on this page that say “Get our InterServer deal “.
All links point to the same page but will apply the coupon automatically in most cases.
Step #2 – Browse InterServer for Shared Web Hosting or Cloud VPS Hosting Plans
There are 2 main links in the top menu bar of InterServer’s website that you should use:
As mentioned above, the coupon only applies to shared web hosting or VPS hosting packages.
You’ll know if you’re on the right page (if you clicked a button on
this page here) because you’ll see a bright orange coupon that contains
the coupon code in it:
Step #3 – Choose a Hosting Package
Here’s where it may get tricky.
If you choose a standard web hosting plan, it’s fairly simple.
You’ll need to enter a domain that you already own, or enter one that you’d like to register through InterServer.
Then, you’ll be asked to fill out a form of basic account details.
Now if you chose an InterServer VPS plan, expect to spend a few minutes here, as the checkout process is a little tricky.
First, you may want to click and drag the slider to view different
storage and speed configurations. You’ll instantly see how the price
You’ll be asked to create an account (just email and password).
After you’ve done that, you can choose the hosting options for your VPS plan:
The 2 most important options are the platform and the coupon fields.
If the coupon code is not there, paste or type it in now.
Step #4 – Review Your Order and Pay
If you chose a shared hosting plan, the last section will show you a recap of your order.
The coupon should be automatically inserted here, but if it isn’t, now is the time to put it in yourself.
From there, checkout by paying with PayPal or a credit card.
Similarly, if you chose a VPS plan, you’ll be able to review your order.
You can pay by credit card or PayPal as well to finish ordering.
InterServer and its Competitors
InterServer has cheap plans and a few features that help them stand out as a web hosting provider.
The most interesting one is that they offer a really wide variety of operating system options.
Interserver offers these operating system options:
Windows 2012 R2
Scientific Linux (a rebuild sponsored by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory)
And five other operating systems!
InterServer Competitors to Consider
While InterServer does have its strengths, it has weaknesses as well.
The most glaring one is that it can be awfully confusing, even if you
have experience with web hosting. The site and platform itself are just
not polished, especially when it comes to VPS plans.
Also, while there is 24/7 phone support and email support, live chat
is not guaranteed 24/7 (although often available). The quality of
support documentation is a bit weak and they are difficult to navigate.
Here are 3 alternatives that address either of those issues:
Liquid Web – A more expensive host, but their servers are top notch, with a 100% uptime guarantee. They also have a reputation for having one of the best support teams and documentation available. Take a look at customer reviews on our Liquid Web review page, and you’ll see what I mean.
InMotion Hosting – An affordable, simple to use host. They have fantastic support documentation for when you run into issues. See this InMotion Hosting review for more detail about their services.
WP Engine – If all you want is to get a simple website up and running with minimal hassle, WP Engine is a good option. They only offer one type of hosting – WordPress hosting. All plans are managed, which means that you don’t need to spend much time setting up and managing servers. Here’s our review page for WP Engine.
You can pay via Paypal, or via credit card (MasterCard, Discover,
Visa, or American Express). With Interstellar, you can store multiple
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Shared hosting accounts have a 30-day money-back guarantee, but there
is no refund guarantee for other types of hosting plans (VPS,
Will my price go up when my hosting plan renews?
While most hosting companies advertise a special reduced rate that
only applies to your first payment term, Interserver is different. They
have a price lock guarantee: the price a consumer signs up for with
InterServer is their guaranteed lifetime locked in price, with no
special conditions, exclusions and fine print whatsoever. That means
that your price will not suddenly increase when your hosting account is
renewed — the price they advertise is your real price.
Does Interserver provide a website backup service?
They do run weekly backups of all accounts, but they note in their
terms of service: “Clients are responsible for frequently backing up
their files on our system. Interserver cannot be held responsible for
the deletion of users’ files, whether intentional or unintentional.”
With the Managed WordPress shared hosting package, you also get daily backups.
What extra features come with the Managed WordPress hosting plan?
You may wonder why the WordPress plan costs more even though they
only allow one website, while the basic hosting plan is cheaper and
allows unlimited websites.
Well, the WordPress plan includes a few extra features specifically for WordPress sites. Namely, you get:
Daily GIT Revisions
Atomic Mod Security
Hacked WordPress Cleanup
Daily Virus Scan
The hacked WordPress cleanup is especially useful. Many web hosts will provide limited technical support for hacked websites, and expect you to solve your own issues.
